Ruotsin jääkiekkomaajoukkueen päävalmentaja Bengt-Åke Gustafsson valitsi paljon kritiikkiäkin herättäneen joukkueen Vancouverin olympiaturnaukseen. Ruotsi pelaa Vancouverissa samassa alkulohkossa Suomen, Valko-Venäjän ja Saksan kanssa. Suomi hävisi Torinon finaalissa Ruotsille 2-3, joten sunnuntaina 21. helmikuuta Leijonat pääsee hakemaan Tre Kronorista revanssia olympiakiekossa.
Ruotsi on voittanut jääkiekossa kahden olympiakullan lisäksi kaksi hopeaa ja neljä pronssia. NHL-tähtien tultua mukaan olympiakiekkoon Ruotsi hävisi Naganon 1998 puolivälieräottelussa Suomelle 1-2 ja Salt Lake Cityn 2002 puolivälierässä sensaatiomaisesti Valko-Venäjälle 3-4. Torinossa 2006 Tre Kronorille tuli kuitenkin täyspotti.
